Lesson 25 Who Is Jesus? Is He God In Flesh? Who Did He Claim To Be? Part 6

I ask that as we go through these lessons, that you get a Bible, read it, pray, study, and ask the Holy Spirit of the Living God, to help guide you into truth.

Comparing scripture with scripture, and comparing spiritual things with spiritual things, is the only correct way for Christians to discern truth from error.

In this lesson we will look at how rightly dividing the word of truth helps us to answer the questions in the title of this week’s lesson. If you fail to understand, or fail to learn how to rightly divide the word of truth, you can never come to the knowledge of the truth and sound doctrine.

We are continuing to study the doctrine of Jesus being God manifest in the flesh. There is probably no greater misunderstood doctrine in the Bible than who Jesus the Christ is.

Once again we will not be going to scholars for an answer to this question, as you can never know who Jesus is through intellect, but only by the Holy Spirit of the living God, thus we will go to no other place than the Holy Scriptures, the Bible (KJV) to find out who Jesus is and claimed to be.

In this lesson we will continue to look at Old Testament verses fulfilled in the New Testament by the Lord Jesus, which reveal that Jesus was in fact the Lord God of Heaven and Earth indwelling a human body.

Isa.43 [3] For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

Isa.43 [11] I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

Isa.45 [15] Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

Isa.45 [21] Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

Isa.49 [26] And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

Hos.13 [4] Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

The verses above clearly show that the Lord God considered himself to be the Saviour and Redeemer of Israel. We see the God of Israel make the statement that there is no saviour besides himself. Also included once again the statement that there is no God beside him.

So in light of the verses above, we see the only way for them to line up with the teaching that the Lord Jesus is the Saviour is for the Lord Jesus to actually be the Saviour identified in Isaiah.

Luke.1 [46] And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, [47] And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

Luke.2 [11] For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

We see here in Luke chp. 1, Mary praising the Lord and rejoicing in God her Saviour, then in chp. 2 we see an Old Testament prophecy fulfilled by none other than Jesus, at his birth, which states that he is born into this world as the Saviour as it is written, which is Christ the Lord.

John.4 [42] And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

Acts.13 [23] Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

In the above verses we see Jesus identified once again as the Christ, the Saviour of the world, and in Acts as the Saviour of Israel.

Now look at the verses below for an example of how intertwined the words God, Saviour, and Lord are used by the Apostle Paul and Peter.

Phil.3 [20] For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

1Tim.1 [1] Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

1Tim.2 [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

1Tim.4 [10] For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

2Tim.1 [10] But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Tit.1 [3] But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

Tit.1 [4] To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Tit.2 [10] Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

Tit.2 [13] Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

Tit.3 [4] But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

Tit.3 [6] Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

2Pet.1 [1] Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

2Pet.1 [11] For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2Pet.2 [20] For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

2Pet.3 [2] That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

2Pet.3 [18] But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

You simply cannot deny that the God of the Bible is one God, that reveals himself as the three persons of the Godhead, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.

There is no way to reconcile the verses in the Old Testament identifying the Great I AM That I AM, the LORD JEHOVAH of Isaiah, with the LORD JESUS of the New Testament other than to recognize that they are all one in the same, that Jesus was in fact God in the Flesh!

1Tim.3 [16] And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

What’s amazing is that some people can read their Bible and walk away with the attitude that Jesus somehow was just a good teacher or a good person, but to not recognize him as God manifest in the flesh is to not know him!

Hate to sound like a broken record but once again the evidence of the Fact that Jesus was God manifest in the flesh is so overwhelming that to deny it, is to deny the very words of the Living God as recorded in the Bible.

The Bible is an easy book to understand when you just read, and believe it, not try and make it say things it doesn’t say.

As far as spiritual discernment, when you know where to get your doctrine from, you will no longer be a confused Christian, or an easy target by the sleight of men to deceive you.

Romans 10 [8] But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
