In 1974 I was introduced to the New
Scofield Reference Bible (NSRB) for the first time, it claimed to be an
authorized King James Version with word changes in the text such as will help
the reader.
Well it was not long after I started
reading the NSRB that it appeared to me that the editors had an agenda that was
much more than just making word changes that would help the reader.
NSRB 1967 Footnote; 1 Samuel (6:19) This
number is generally considered to be a
scribal error. Error by
scribes in transcription of Hebrew numbers was easy, whereas preservation of numerical accuracy was
difficult. Inspiration
extends only to the inerrancy of the original autographs.
As a young Christian I will never forget the first time I read the above footnote about 1st Samuel (6:19) in my New Scofield Reference Bible, it rattled
me to the bones, I immediately thought scribal error, scribal error in my
Bible, this is the kind of things my unsaved college friends had been saying about
the Bible, and why I could not trust it, but now here I am reading it in a
footnote in my Bible that Christians were promoting.
Immediately my mind was filled with thoughts, errors in my Bible, how many errors are there? How severe are the errors? Did Jesus really die and raise again? The skeptics claimed he did not rise from the dead. How do I determine where these errors are? etc.
Now 42 years later I have witnessed this
attitude towards the Bible destroy many Christian’s faith in
the inerrancy of the Bible, and opened the flood gate for these new
translations to be accepted.
The end result of this attitude if you
believe all the Bibles have errors, then we end up with none of them being the
final authority and every man’s opinion as good as the next.
Without a final written authority there is
no way to tell whether the Jehovah’s Witness Bible is better that the
Methodist’s Bible, or maybe the Book of Mormon is what we should all be
following.
As you will see below in just a few examples
of the footnotes and word changes in the NSRB that it did nothing but cast doubt on the living words of
the living God.
I ask you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you read the information below in the footnotes and ask yourself, do they or would they build your faith in God's Holy Word?

have believe I have been shown by the Holy Spirit. You will have to search the
scriptures for yourself to see if the things I say are true.

Daniel 3 [25]
He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the
midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth
is like [a son of the gods]. (KJV reads "the Son of God")
NSRB 1967 Footnote; Mark 16: Verses 9-20 are not found in the two most ancient
mss., the Sinaiticus and
Vaticanus; others have them with partial omissions and variations.
Sinaiticus and Vaticanus are two Roman Catholic
manuscripts one is currently still in the Vatican, just because they are
ancient is not reason enough for me to believe I should get rid of my
Authorized Version which was translated by men willing to die to put God’s Holy
Word into the English language.
NSRB 1967 Footnote; John 5:3 The oldest and
best manuscripts omit “waiting for the moving of the water,” and all of verse 4.
Here again why would I believe that just
because I have an old manuscript that it is better than the Bible I currently
have. Paul said in 2Cor.2 [17] For we are not
as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of
God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ. In Jeremiah we read Jer.23 [36]
And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man's word shall
be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the
LORD of hosts our God.
Why would I not believe that these old
manuscripts might have been corrupted or perverted, and the recorded words of the
living God in the Bible I can hold in my hand and read is the correct one?
NSRB 1967 Footnote; 1st John 5:7 - It is generally agreed that this
verse has no manuscript authority and has
been inserted.
NSRB 1967 Footnote; 1st John 5:13 – The Words “and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” do not appear in
most of the early manuscripts.
The footnotes above imply that someone
just made these verses up and added them to the Bible.
Now remember I told you I discovered this
issue 42 years ago as a baby Christian, what I can now tell you is that a lot
of the new translations of the Bible in the last 30 years has totally removed
these verses and not only these but many others that the NRSB said had no
manuscript authority.
I believe that Satan knew he could not just
come into the church and take the Authorized Version (KJV) God’s preserved word
away from the people.
Earlier translations that corrupted and
changed the word was rejected by the Christians and failed to displace it such
as the, Revised Version 1881, American Standard Version 1901, and the Revised Standard
Version 1952 being a few examples.
So just like in the garden of Eden when Satan
cast doubt on God’s word to Eve he told everyone the New Scofield Reference
Bible was an authorized KJV with word changes such as to help the reader.
Truth is the changes they made had nothing
to do with helping the reader but was to cause doubt about the Authorized
Version or KJV accuracy.
You have to believe
one of two things that the God of the Bible, which spoke the world into
existence, and gave the Word of God
to man, then just left it to
sinful men to haphazardly pass it along with little or no help from himself.
Or you have to believe
the God of the Bible was not only interested in the original manuscripts, but
was also interested copies, of copies, of copies, etc. and ensuring the
preservation of his Holy Words by guiding holy men of God to preserve and even
translate his word into other languages.
I have 30 plus English
Bible translations that I use to share with people. When they are compared side
by side with an Authorized Version of the Bible, to this date the people that have
done this come to the same conclusion and that is Satan’s signature is all over
the new translations.
