I ask that as we go through these lessons, that you get your Bible,
read it, pray, study, and ask the Holy Spirit of the Living God, to help you
determine if these teachings are true.
Now we have looked at what Jesus was teaching, in Matthew, Mark, Luke,
John, and the first eight chapters of the book of Acts. I believe we have clearly
shown that he was teaching the people to follow the Mosaic Law.
No where prior to Chapter 9 of the book of Acts, before the conversion
of the Apostle Paul have we seen any evidence that the Lord Jesus, his
disciples, or any of his followers, ever told anyone that they did not have to
follow all the Mosaic Laws, even after Jesus had been raised from the dead.
Now, let us look at what Jesus and his Disciples were preaching. I
promise that if you look at these verses, and let the Holy Spirit open your
eyes, you will see Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and the first eight chapters of
the book of Acts in a new light!
Also, I want to introduce you to one of most misunderstood, and
misused words of the Bible, that Satan has used to keep some Christians, and
all the mainline denominations, confused, and misdirected for centuries.
What is this word? it is the word “Gospel”, that one little word “Gospel” has been used,
and is used by Satan to propagate more false doctrine than any other word, or
group of words, in the Bible.
Why
do I say that? Because the vast majority of Christians are either blinded,
unable, or unwilling, to see that the word “Gospel” by itself only means “good
news”, it must be used in conjunction with other words to define what the good
news is.
I want to repeat this for emphasis
that one little word “Gospel” has been used, and is used, by Satan to propagate more false doctrine, than any
other word, or group of words, in the Bible.
Christians in the pews, in
pulpits, in choirs, in Sunday Schools, in seminaries, all across the world,
make this simple, but destructive mistake, when they hear the word “Gospel”
they think that it means the same “good news” in the Bible everywhere the word
is used, and this one mistake has led to all kinds of false doctrine, and
confusion in our Christian Churches.
Example: Alfred gets a phone
call, and the person on the phone call says, "Alfred, I have some really good
news for you", and just then the phone goes dead. Now I know the person was
about to give me additional words to identify the “good news” that was about to
come out of their mouth, but the word “good news” doesn’t mean anything, if it
is not defined as to what the good news is! The “good news” could have been, "I
am going to live another 6 months, instead the 1 month the doctor told me". "It could
have been good news I won a car". "It could have been good news I don’t have a
brain tumor". All of those things are good news, but again without it being
defined, I don’t know what it is.
The word “Gospel” shows up
for the first time in the Bible in Matthew 4:23, and it is combined with the word
kingdom, so we get “the gospel of the kingdom”, which simply means “the good
news of the kingdom”. It’s that simple!
Matt.4 [23] And Jesus went about all Galilee,
teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of
sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Mark.1 [14] Now after that John was put in
prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
[15] And saying, The time
is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe
the gospel.
Luke.9 [6] And they departed, and went through
the towns, preaching the gospel,
and healing every where.
So according to the verses
above, Jesus and his disciples were preaching, the gospel of the kingdom! This
simply means the good news of the kingdom.
Now what was this kingdom
gospel, it simply was the good news of the Old Testament prophetic kingdom,
that the Jews were expecting their Old Testament Messiah to bring about, when
he showed up here on planet Earth! That’s all it was, nothing more, and nothing
less!
Notice in Matt.2 [1] Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea
in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came
wise men from the east to Jerusalem, [2] Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for
we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Look at these two verses and pay attention, what were the wise men looking for the King of the Jews, and what were they going to do when they found him they were going to worship him!
Pay attention, worship him,
who is supposed to receive worship, that
would be only the Lord God of Heaven and Earth!
All one has to do is back up five verses to Matt.1 [22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of
the Lord by the prophet, saying, [23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son,
and they shall call his name Emmanuel,
which being interpreted is, God with us.
We find the clear words that tell us, Jesus was God
with us!
Now jumping ahead we read the following in John 19 [19] And Pilate wrote a title,
and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
This
statement above the cross is recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, one doesn’t have to spend all their life studying the scriptures to find out that Jesus is God, and that he showed up here on
planet Earth to fulfill his roll as the King of the
Jews, which means that the gospel of the kingdom he was preaching
was to be setup here on planet Earth, with him ruling on the Throne of David as
foretold in the Old Testament!
Now what happened, is the Jews rejected,
and killed their King, the Lord Jesus, and the Old Testament prophetic program,
that was to be an earthly kingdom, with Jesus ruling as the King was
placed on hold.
Now real quick to end this
Lesson I just want to show you the gospel, or good news that Jesus gave to the
Apostle Paul that superseded the Kingdom Gospel.
The “gospel of the
kingdom” was not the “gospel” that Paul preached!
I don’t want to spend a lot
of time on this yet, but the gospel Paul preached was “Christ Crucified”, that Jesus
died for our sins, that he was buried, and the Lord Jesus rose again from the
dead after three days. It’s that simple!
1Cor.15 [1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto
you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received,
and wherein ye stand; [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye
keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. [3]
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4]
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day
according to the scriptures:
The words of our Apostle Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles!
2Tim.2 [15] Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Come join with us as we study God’s Holy Word!
Remember most unsound Bible Doctrine, is sound Bible Doctrine misapplied to the wrong time period, or wrong group of people.
