I ask that as we go through these lessons, that you get your Bible,
read it, pray, study, and ask the Holy Spirit of the Living God, to help guide
you into truth.
By comparing scripture with scripture, and comparing
spiritual things with spiritual things, we as Christians are able to discern
truth from error.
I would like to return to our ongoing study of God’s directions
to the disciples of the prophetic program to Israel, compared to the directions
of the mystery as given to the Apostle Paul
and the Body of Christ.
We will look at some of the most misused,
misunderstood, and at the same time simple to understand verses in the Bible,
and with the help of the Holy Spirit open the eyes of the misled.
We will look at the first 11
verses of Acts Chp. 2, we are going to look at the verses and not try and make
them say anything but what they say and teach, we are not going to twist or
wrest these verses against themselves, or any other verses. I believe these
verses are simple to understand as written.
Acts.2 [1] And when the day of Pentecost
was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. [2]
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,
and it filled all the house where they were sitting. [3] And there appeared unto them cloven
tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. [4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began
to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. [5] And there were dwelling at
Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. [6] Now when this was noised abroad,
the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every
man heard them speak in his own language. [7] And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold,
are not all these which speak Galilaeans? [8] And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein
we were born? [9] Parthians,
and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and
Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, [10] Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt,
and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and
proselytes, [11] Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues
the wonderful works of God.
I want you to look this up for yourself and
verify it, Pentecost was the Jewish festival of Shavuoth.
The definition of Shavuoth as found in Merriam Webster English dictionary is : a Jewish holiday observed on the sixth and seventh of Sivan
in commemoration of the revelation of the Ten Commandments at Mt. Sinai
—called also Pentecost
If you have read the previous lessons about
what Jesus was teaching in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, I believe we proved beyond
a shadow of doubt that Jesus was preaching and teaching people to follow the Mosaic
Laws.
I have yet for anyone to show, or produce one
verse where Jesus, or his disciples, ever told anyone that the rules had
changed, and they did not have to follow the Old Testament Laws prior to Paul's conversion in Acts Chp. 9.
It is fitting that on the day of
Pentecost, a day the Jews celebrated the revelation of the Ten Commandments,
that the Holy Ghost now descends upon them.
Please notice, and don’t let your emotions drive you,
but pray and ask the Holy Ghost to reveal the truth to you, as we look closer
at these verses.
Acts.2 [4] And they were all filled with
the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance.
In verse 4, when they began to speak
with tongues, it was as the Spirit gave them utterance, this simply means it
was an orderly thing, they spoke one at a time, not chaotically or uncontrolled.
Acts.2 [5] And there were dwelling at
Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
In verse 5, we see these were Jews
out of every nation under heaven, this simply means it was a diverse group of
Jews, which did not speak the same language.
Acts.2 [6] Now when this was noised abroad,
the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every
man heard them speak in his own language.
In verse 6, we see the Biblical
definition of what happened, notice every man heard them speak in their own
language.
Acts.2 [7]
And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are
not all these which speak Galilaeans?
In verse 7, we see that all of the
speakers were Galileans, not everyone present was speaking.
Acts.2 [8]
And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were
born?
In verse 8, we get an ever clearer
definition of what happened, the languages being heard were in each person’s
native language where they were born.
Acts.2 [9]
Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in
Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
[10] Phrygia, and
Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of
Rome, Jews and proselytes, [11] Cretes and Arabians, we do hear
them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
In verses 9-11, we have listed all the
different areas that the group of men (Jews not Gentiles) were from. We also are told that the things
being spoken of, was the wonderful works of God
The miracle here in these verses, was
that a person (Galilean) would speak in an orderly fashion, and the crowd would
here them in their own language!
Today’s equivalent would be a United
Nations meeting, where a person is speaking, and with the help of modern day
technology, each person from another country hears the speaker in his own
tongue, or language.
If you look at these verses, just
read them, take them as they are written, there is nothing being spoken here on
the day of Pentecost, that was not in a known language!
There is no other correct
interpretation of what is happening here in these verses. It’s that simple.
I will conclude this lesson at verse 11 as the
next section of verses I would like to cover would make the post too long. I
encourage you to study ahead with the rest of Acts Chp. 2 as we will continue
it in Lesson 16.
Remember Romans 10: [9] That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
